To test the functionality of your microphone right click on the volume control indicator on your main screen and go to "open sound settings" then scroll down to the "test your microphone" section.
Speak aloud at different volumes and ensure that the light grey bar is pulsating when you are speaking, if this bar registers when noises are made, as indicated by the pulsating light grey bar, your mic is working correctly and is registering sound.
